As a CompTIA technical instructor, I’ve been guiding students through the wide world of IT certifications for many years now. Teaching isn’t just a job for me—it’s a passion, and I truly love what I do. I delight in explaining new things to people, and there’s something incredibly rewarding about demystifying complex subjects for my students.

One of the aspects of teaching that I find most fulfilling is tackling difficult subjects head-on. Whether it’s delving into the intricacies of subnetting or exploring the nuances of encryption, I thrive on the challenge of breaking down difficult concepts into digestible pieces. Seeing the look of understanding on my students’ faces when they grasp a difficult concept is truly priceless.

When it comes to teaching tech, I believe in fostering a hands-on, interactive learning environment. Whether it’s through lab exercises, real-world case studies, or discussions on interesting subjects, I try to provide the necessary information in a variety of different ways to help keep the students engaged. As most people tend to identify as “visual learners,” I’m frequently drawing on my shared screen or finding different pictures and videos to try and further enhance the experience.

Among my favorite subjects to teach are networking and security. Networking, in particular, holds a special place in my heart, due to it being sort of an acquired taste. I enjoy seeing students take the same journey as I did and go from being overwhelmed and possibly even hating it (it’s all the acronyms) to really enjoying it as they understand it more and more. I especially love teaching IP addresses and subnet masks. There’s something fascinating about the way computers communicate, and helping students understand this important and fundamental aspect of networking is extremely gratifying.

Security is another area that I’m deeply passionate about, especially when it comes to passwords and social engineering. Weak passwords and unaware users are surprisingly one of the biggest threats companies can face. I find students really enjoy these subjects as well, as they are not only interesting, but also very useful in both their personal and professional lives. These are two areas I feel every person on the planet should have training in, regardless of their career or job role.

Conclusion

Ultimately, I love what I do, and my goal as an instructor is not just to help students pass their certification exams, but to give them the information they need to embark confidently on their new career path. Teaching is more than just sharing information—it’s about inspiring and motivating students to reach their full potential. Hope to see you in class soon!
